# The job and its margin, while the work happens

Each project is split into sections and line items, and each piece of work is a document with an owner. Hours, expenses and materials add up live, without waiting for month-end close.

- BC3 budget import
- Running cost per project
- Portfolio and team workload

## Projects and construction: what it does

### Sections, line items and documents

The project is structured into sections, line items and sub-items. Each piece of work is a document with its owner, its checklist and its service report, just like any work order.

### Measurements and progress billing

The site report records the measurements and the progress billing for each line item. What is measured on site stays in the project, not in a notebook.

### Running cost and progress

Hours at their rate, expenses and materials add up while the work happens, and progress comes from closed documents. With the [Gantt chart](https://attendo.me/en/modules/gantt-chart) you compare planned against actual.

### Portfolio and workload

The portfolio brings your projects together, and the workload view shows who is overloaded before you commit to a date. By day, week or month, based on each person’s actual working hours.

### From a BC3 budget

You import the budget from Presto or Arquimedes in BC3 format: sections, line items and amounts arrive without retyping. And the project report prints with your branding.

### Multi-user whiteboards

A live whiteboard with charts, notes, annotations, drawings, images and rich text. The text supports headings, task lists and links to documents, users, customers, projects and groups. You see each person’s cursor and who changed what, with history and named versions.

## Step by step

This is how it is used day to day, on the same document as the rest of the modules.

### Step 1 · You create or import the project

Manually or from a BC3 file, with its sections, line items and amounts.

### Step 2 · You plan and assign

Dates, estimated hours and owners, with the Gantt chart and team workload in view.

### Step 3 · The work happens in documents

Technicians close their service reports with hours, materials and measurements, from their phone or their desktop.

### Step 4 · You track the margin

Progress and cost update with every closed document, and profitability is reported per project.

## Where it fits (and where it does not)

- The portfolio, the workload view and the Gantt chart are desktop screens. On mobile, technicians work on their documents.
- If your BC3 file has many levels, part of the hierarchy is flattened on import. Check the structure before planning.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it only for construction?

No. It works for a plant shutdown, a store opening or an installation, with the same sections and line items.

### Which estimating programs can I import from?

Those that export to BC3, such as Presto or Arquimedes. Sections, line items and amounts come through.

### Can I see project profitability?

Yes. Logged hours, expenses and materials are compared with what was invoiced in the sales documents that go to your ERP. Profitability is reported per project, just like per customer or per contract.

### When the job is finished, do I keep using the same system?

Yes. The store you open today as a project, you maintain tomorrow as a customer, with its assets and contracts.
